Introduction to medical statistics & analysis of health data using R – Thursday 8th and Friday 9th January 2015

The Department of Health Care Management and Policy are running at two day workshop entitled “”Introduction to medical statistics & analysis of health data using R”.

This course is for researchers, clinicians and health services analysts that want an intensive introduction to medical statistics and learn how to use R. R is a very powerful free statistical package you can continue to use after attending this course.

The topics covered using R will include:

  • Access and download recommended versions of R and other add-on programs you can continue to use after the course without licence fees
  • Gain knowledge and understanding of some of the more common statistical methods involved in the analysis and interpretation of health data for research, more effective audit and analysis to support health service management
  • Gain expertise in the use of R statistical package analyse and present study data

Prof Simon Jones (Course director)Simon is Head of Integrated Care Research and Professor of Epistemology. Prior to this he has held a number ofsenior posts in health care including Chief Statistician at Dr Foster Intelligence and a secondment as Head of

Analytics for the Centre for Workforce Intelligence for Health and Social Care.

Dr John WilliamsJohn is a Clinical Informatician who has recently completed nine years as the National Clinical Safety Lead to the English

GP2GP record transfer project.

Dr Simon HassanSimon is a salaried GP and a foundation doctor educational supervisor. He is also Chair of South West LambethIntegrated Care working for Southwark and Lambeth integrated care and he collaborates with the Clinical Informatics

Research Group within the Department of Health Care Management & Policy on projects of clinical interest.

Jeremy van Vlymen
Jeremy works within the Department of Health Care and Policy as Research Fellow. Previously he worked in industry and finance developing and managing software systems for SMEs and global corporates.
